America is a food rich country. We are spoiled with the vast availability of food, but all things change. We've all seen the news stories of empty shelves in the grocery stores when a hurricane is on the way, but this a short time problem.

The real challenge will be when the grid is down for an extended period of time. If you have no electricity to pump gas, you are going nowhere.  Having a pantry full of food gives you a wonderful feeling of security in case of tough times.
